Rainer Kessler Cyber Security

Rainer Kessler is associated partner of mas. He is founder and owner of Governance Concept GmbH and consults in the area of operations, technology and information governance, risk, compliance, assurance, and security in multiple sectors, with special focus on financial industry, public administration, and defense.

Prior to this, he was global and group wide chief information security officer (CISO) of UBS. In his line management responsibility was, among other functions, the bank’s global cyber defense unit. Further professional experience includes PricewaterhouseCoopers and Ernst & Young, where he developed methodologies and led global assignments as principal consultant and senior manager in advisory and audit units. In parallel to his 30 years of IT as well as 25 years of audit and security experience, he has lectured at universities for more than 20 years.

After a vocational diploma in business administration (KV), he was certified in computer software engineering (Eidg. Fa. Wirtschaftsinformatiker) and did a bachelor (BBA) and a master (MBA) in business administration (University of Wales, UK). Currently he studies to reach a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in international business law (University of Cumbria, UK).

In parallel to his professional education, he completed enhanced military courses and trainings (he currently serves as Major in the troop command simulation exercise instruction of the Swiss armed forces general staff school).

At mas, Rainer supports the digital transformation initiatives from a cyber-security, technology compliance, and information risk perspective.

Rainer is a Swiss citizen and speaks German and English, and is conversant in Spanish.
